How Do You Want to Be Recruited?

Posted on 10/07/09 in Candidate Advice, Employer Advice, View Comments

Recruiting is all about the organization, not you. We all know that. But, I’ve been giving the recruiting process a lot of thought lately, and I wanted to know: How would you like to be recruited?

Maybe I should rephrase: What are your brilliant ideas for organizations to recruit Gen Y?

There certainly doesn’t seem to be one best answer at the moment (perhaps there never will be), although there are new career-related start-ups popping up every day trying to break into the business of recruiting you. But I’m giving you the opportunity to “sound off” right now about how the internship and entry-level recruitment process could be made better and more efficient for both candidates and employers.

I wouldn’t mind being a part of a scheme like “The Apprentice.” That way, your personal connections might land you a spot at the internship, but if you can’t work as hard or well as your competition.. “YER FIYAD.”

corporate internships should start in high school. if we did that, we wouldn’t how to ask ourselves how to recruit Gen Y because we would have already had in-depth exposure to them (and they to us).

I agree that internships should start with high school. As professional life is accelerated, so too should be our desire to be inclusive. Youth bring a world of curiosity as well as enthusiasm. Not to mention that they won’t need to integrated into the 2.0 world, they ARE that world and will have much to share given an opportunity.
